KAYAK TAGUA TAGUA & UPPER PUELO
HOTEL TAWA REFUGIO DEL PUELO

This exploration takes us on a journey across Lake Tagua Tagua from a unique perspective. We depart from the Refugio, embarking directly from Tawa and paddling across the lake. This is a demanding yet thrilling adventure, allowing us to enjoy the lake’s magical colors, the views of the evergreen forest from the water, and the surrounding mountains. Our first goal is to reach the lake’s great waterfall, a breathtaking cascade set in a stunning natural environment.

After this iconic stop, we continue paddling along the lake toward Puerto Maldonado, from where we will navigate a section of the Puelo River upstream against the current. Here, the landscape transforms as we wind our way up the river through mesmerizing sandy beaches. We will disembark onshore for a well-deserved outdoor lunch, recharging before heading back to Tawa. Depending on our guide’s recommendations and the group’s motivation, the return journey will either be by paddling or by boat. Kayaking back requires significant effort, usually against the wind, and is recommended for experienced travelers accustomed to long-distance paddling.

Recommended Equipment
Hat, sunglasses, water shoes, waterproof windbreaker, quick-dry base layer, swimsuit, and a change of clothes in a dry bag provided by the Tawa team.
